Star Wars The Black Series: Ben [Obi-Wan] Kenobi

Obi Wan Kenobi Black Series Figure
One of the most important characters in the Star Wars saga has finally made it's way in the Black Series collection-Obi Wan or old Ben Kenobi. Before we go further, there are already 3 variants of this figure which are the SDCC Exclusive, the 40th Anniversary and the black and red boxed figure #32.

#32 Obi Wan Kenobi Black Series

The first variant released was the SDCC Exclusive that comes with the electronic light-up table with Princess Leia hologram. The best thing I like in this set is the talking Princess Leia delivering her message to Obi-Wan.

The 40th Anniversary Black Series was released in celebration of Star Wars since 1977. The figures come in the classic The Vintage Collection card display. They have retained the original manufacturer logo-Kenner who originally launched the same lineup in 1977.

We are going to review the black and red boxed #32 figure from A New Hope this time. Since I don't have the other two variants yet, I can't say if it's the same action figure which has been repacked and paired with other accessories.

6" Black Series Ben Kenobi
My first impression of the Obi-Wan Kenobi 6" figure is it's likeness to the British actor Alec Guinness. Hasbro did great on the face sculpt to the most anticipated figure in the Black Series line which did not disappoint most collectors unlike their first Darth Vader release. Talking of which, I hope that the price of the 40th Anniversary (improved) Darth Vader would be on sale or be sold without the diorama.

Accessories that comes with this figure is the removable cloak, lightsaber hilt and lightsaber blade. Articulation is just basic especially with the legs. You can only extend the legs on the sides but not too much on forward & backward. Thanks to the rocker ankles which is compromised with these leg limitations. Ball-hinged shoulder/arms and ball-jointed head.

I just down like the way the hanging bag was sculpted. They should have made it slightly detached from the robe to make it more natural. Side views of the face sculpt still retain the likeness to Alec Guinness. Notice the large ears?

Here Obi-Wan wearing his brown jedi cloak. Reminds me of a scene in A New Hope where he comes face to face again with his old padawan Anakin Skywalker who was lured to the dark side as Darth Vader!

I like the way the cloak fits on the figure's body especially the hood. It may be large but hides the face so well to anyway you want it. On display, I prefer the hood on which reminds me again of Ben Kenobi doing he's jedi mind tricks on the weak-minded sandtroopers.

Ben Kenobi Yoda Luke Skywalker
Here's a size comparison with Yoda and X-Wing Luke Skywalker. Slightly taller than Luke looks right for me. All I need now is the glowing ghost effect for Obi-Wan for the Dagobah scene.

You'll never go wrong with the 6" Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi and I'm glad to have him even though in the most basic packaging. Face sculpt and jedi cloak are the main features of this figure.

It's a trap! I mean it's a wrap of another 6" Black Series collection-Ben Kenobi. Hope you enjoyed this review and I leave you another greeting-Happy Toy Hunting!
