Bandai 6" C3PO Model Kit Review

bandai c3po star wars

This is my third Bandai Star Wars action figure model kit, C3PO. He's one of the most iconic character when it comes to droids that belong to the rebel alliance. Treepio's shiny gold plated body and unique accent who can translate 6 million forms of communication makes this protocol droid very popular to the fans. Along with his partner R2D2, together they bring robotic humor to the film.

bandai c3po box

The Bandai Star Wars model kit boxes has always been something you want to keep. The glossy texture and fine print rates 9 out of 10 for me. So here we go, let's start opening the box and see what's inside!

Above is just a portion of the parts to build C3PO. I selected the ones that would look good in the picture to avoid image confusion. I think 2 sprues were not in the photo including the stickers.

Just using two small pliers, I was able to complete this kit approximately for one day. Actually it was completed the next day since there were long time gaps in the work process.

You may need some extra tool when working with this kit because of the tiny parts like bolts and stickers that an ordinary hand can't handle. Be sure to use a table cloth or big paper so when you drop something, you know where to look to. Looking for tiny parts on the floor is a waste of time and we don't want to step on those plastics!

Articulation:

Above photos are using the static arms, no elbow bending except for the swivel shoulders that goes up and down only. It does come with another pair of arms where you can slightly bend the elbows but those rubbery lines which limits the bending easily breaks off.

bandai c3po articulation

It has swivel head that can slightly tilt. Swivel biceps and hands. A ball joint abs. Well the lower part is not quite impressive because the legs has very limited movement due to the armor design. Knees slightly bend and just a swivel ankle. But come to think about the real C3PO, this could be an excuse.

Appearance:

I never had a Revoltech C3PO but having seen some figures of them in toy stores, the Bandai version comes close to movie accuracy due to it's shiny gold armor and of course, the details.

bandai kotobukiya c3po

As compared to the Kotobukiya C3PO with R2D2 statue, the shininess and details are almost identical.

c3po restraining bolt

Above is an interchangeable chest plate and one comes with a restraining bolt, a small device used to control droids and not to leave an area designated by the owner. I also enjoy looking at the detailed belly wires in this figure. That part was actually easy to assemble.

c3po communicator

One hand can hold a communicator which he used in A New Hope episode. It should only be black in the middle and the rest is white. In the naked eye, you can't almost see it. The hand detail is also cool though.

c3po back plate

Want more detail? The back plate is removable where you can see some sort of crystal circuit board. Can be easier to remove if you're a long-nailed collector.

c3po bandai black series

Since Bandai C3PO is scaled at 1/12, we can't wait to compare it's size to the 6" Black Series Figures. Here Luke in Hoth outfit stands as tall as Treepio and that I think is movie accurate. Yeah he will look great with your other Black Series figures!

UPDATE: I forgot to place the pair of round stickers for the eyes! I think should have placed them behind the lenses.

Verdict:
The shiny gold armor will reflect light and glow which could hide the actual detail. Not a big deal. Go for a better room lighting.

It lacks articulation but in the movie, he really does not move too much.

He looks cool with the other Black Series figures and is 90% screen accurate for me. Having built this model kit, I can't wait to get the R2D2 and R5D4 model kit.

TIP: Wait awhile before throwing away the sprues because I overlook some parts on the side of the knees and the damaged eye with wire that hangs out from the head.
