Sandtrooper 6" Star Wars Black Series from Hasbro

6" Sandtrooper Black Series

This is the 6" Sandtrooper from Hasbro's Black Series line. This six inch Black Series started somewhere in August 2013 and he belongs to Wave 1 together with R2D2, Darth Maul and Luke Skywalker (X Wing). Each sold separately.

Who are the Sandtroopers?

A sandtrooper or desert trooper is an Imperial Stormtrooper equipped with an armor to withstand the harsh climates of desert planets like Tatooine. You can see them in Episode IV where they are on the hunt for C3PO and R2D2 who carries the rebel plan to destroy the Death Star.

Another memorable scene is when Ben Kenobi uses his Jedi mind trick on the weak-minded Sandtroopers to allow them to skip the identification check.

Ben Kenobi: (waving his hand slowly) "You don't need to see his identification."
Sandtrooper: [pauses] "We don't need to see his identification."

Appearance:

Having collected some six inch Marvel figures, I thought of what if there's also a bigger Star Wars action figures out of the usual 3.75" figures? It would look more detailed and can put more articulation to it. And Yes-Hasbro finally made this dream into a reality!

6" Sandtrooper Black Series6" Sandtrooper Black SeriesThe 6" Sandtrooper figure is the overall physical improvement of the smaller figures out there in the market. He comes close the big screen version especially with the helmet sculpt. It's like the eFX helmet being scaled down to 1:12.

Notice the orange pauldron on his right shoulder? There's a nice sculpt that shows some leather stretch lines by its pauldron button. Even the leather magazines pouches look awesome!

Another sculpt points is the sand stains in the whole armor. You bet he did came from a desert storm equipped with the heavy and light blaster rifles and the small baster rifle-E11. The weapons are also well detailed and hard enough to withstand bending.

Some say he's kinda' skinny for a Sandtrooper but for me, he's the physically fit guy inside an armor.  I enjoy looking at him when he's on the shelves together with the other Black Series characters. Very well proportioned body parts and the weapon size is just right.

The Sandtrooper is a great figure because you can remove the backpack and the shoulder pauldron. So what do you get? A Strormtrooper! It's like having 2 figures into one package except for the sand stains.  Now the new Stormtrooper figure is whiter of course and I think some helmet design changes.

Oh let me add that there's no thermal detonator in the back belt so better get a 6" Stormtrooper figure if you want to complete the whole set.

Articulation:

You'll have fun playing around with this guy because he comes with many articulation which is good enough to do some action poses.

Head is ball jointed with hinged neck but due to the helmet structure, leaning downwards is limited. Swivel hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel wrists,  ball joint abs,  swivel thighs, double joint knees and ball joint ankles.

The joints are tight enough to hold as many poses but of course proper care should be practiced.

Final Verdict:

Appearance: 10/10
Articulation: 9/10
Value for money: 9/10
Recommended: Yes

The 6" Black Series line is one of the best Hasbro figures out there but seeing some of the characters from its various waves, the Sandtrooper figure shouldn't be missed. Packed with accessories and the closest likeness to the screen version, you won't regret owning one.

Stay tuned for the other Star Wars character review from the six inch figure line. May the force be with you.
