Commander Cody: 6" Star Wars Black Series

6" Star Wars Black Series Commander Cody
This figure review is kinda' late because the 6" Black Series Commander Cody #14 was released somewhere in 2015. I got mine on the same year, took photos but never wrote until I felt, man I should review this figure.

Introduction:

Battle of Utapau in Revenge of the Sith
Commander Cody was one of the clone armies formed from the genetic template of Jango Fett, a bounty hunter. The clones troopers were deployed across the galaxy to fight against the droid armies during the Clone Wars. Commander Cody was then under the command of Obi-Wan Kenobi but later turned his back from the Jedi master because of his indoctrinated loyalty to Chancellor Palpatine who ordered to kill all Jedis (Order 66).

6" Star Wars Black Series Commander Cody box
As you can see it still uses the blue line box design that preceded the present red background design which started from the release of The Force Awakens figures. From then, the new boxes are thinner in width by a centimeter.

Here is Commander Cody out of the box. As far as I know, this release was a taste of what a Phase 2 Clone Trooper would look like but Hasbro did not release any single packs following Commander Cody but instead included them in the Black Series 4-pack bundle (Phase 1 Clone Trooper Commander, Phase II Clone Trooper, Imperial Stormtrooper, and First Order Stromtrooper Officer).

Appearance:

I will tell you straight to the point, what you're paying for this figure is the paint job! Colors and markings are neat with no visible signs of paint irregularities. I like all the shades of orange in this figure except it lacks paint signs of battle damage and that also goes to the whole armor.  You can see some scratch marks on the chest armor but some black paint chips on it would be better.

You might think the two orange symbols on the helmet's mic tips (bliar induction filters) are stickers, no they aren't. Another fine example of details is with the commander insignia, the antenna on his left shoulder plate armor and the belt pouches.

Accessories:

The figure comes with the 2 weapons - one standard blaster and blaster rifle. Both weapons are painted plain black. Both weapons can fit well into the hands.

The popular scene in Episode III where Commander Cody is holding a hologram of Darth Sidious who's giving the instruction to execute Order 66 is a disappointment with this package because there's no hologram included. Another could-be-cool item missing is Obi-Wan's lightsaber which Commander Cody found after Obi-Wan's duel with General Grievous.

The small backpack or whatever they call it is not removable from the back.

Articulation:

First thing I noticed is the stiff body joints which is good at making dynamic poses while keeping its balance. But there's a limitation with the poses you can make especially with the shoulders, the torso and the elbows.

Shoulders: They come to a stop when you lift the arms sideways. Notice how the shoulder armor plates are slightly lifted making the tips hit the body armor from the neck.

Torso: The belt pouches are another obvious hindrance with the torso's movement. You can slightly swivel and crunch.

Elbows: It comes with a double-hinged elbows but the extra elbow pads cause a stop when bending the arms and limited to an approximate angle of 90 degrees.

The hands can now hold the weapons with more options because of the 2 ball-jointed wrists.

The rest of the articulation is almost the same with the Phase 1 Clone Troopers especially with the leg joints down to the shoes.

There's an average articulation with the helmet where he can look up and down, sideways and some head tilt.

I like posing Commander Cody with the head looking down while holding an imaginary hologram of Darth Sidious which should have come with the accessories. I tried replacing it with a hologram that came with Count Dooku (Star Wars Saga Series) but it looks out of scale with him.

Final Thoughts:

The 6" Star Wars Black Series: Commander Cody will be a great addition to your clone army collection who played an iconic role in the Battle of Utapau as the first commander to execute Order 66. The figure has nice paint job but could be better if there's some touch of battle damage. There maybe some few articulation issues and no Darth Sidious hologram included BUT not enough why not to pick or order one from a toy store. It's still a nice figure which looks great with other troopers especially with those in Utapau.

So until the next toy review. Happy Toy Hunting!
