Here is another awesome figure from Hasbro-the Stormtrooper! Yes and he’s my favorite character in Star Wars. He belongs to Wave 4 that also include Han Solo repack, Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker in Bespin outfit.
The six inch series wouldn’t be complete without including the Stormtrooper who is seen in Episodes 4-6 and has always been one of the iconic sci-fi figures of the Star Wars saga.
Who are the Stormtroopers?
The Imperial Stormtroopers serves as the army of the Galactic Empire under the leadership of Emperor Palpatine and his ally Darth Vader. The first troopers were originally an Army of the Republic and were cloned from a bountry hunter Jango Fett. They were called Clone Troopers back then who later turned as personal army of Emperor Palpatine in putting down revolts and establishing Imperial authority. And thus came the new Stormtroopers!
Appearance:
Again he stands six inch tall and the first thing I noticed is the clean, shinny and whitish armor. Now this is one major difference with the 6” Sandtrooper Black Series. You can also attach the Sandtrooper’s backpack at the hole of the Stormtrooper’s back and you get a clean Sandtrooper!
He is equipped with two weapons-the standard issue E-11 blaster rifle and the DLT-20A blaster rifle. I just had a hard time fitting the DLT-20A blaster rifle in the right hand because the fingers become loose easily.
When I first opened the figure from the box, the holster for the E-11 blaster is slightly folded which is a small drawback in the plastic packaging. Anyway the blaster fits well in the holster and this is great when you want your figure carrying both weapons at the same time. As for me I try keeping weapons near the figures to avoid misplacing them.
The Stormtrooper helmet is another difference with the Sandtroopers’ and that is with the eye lenses’ size. They look smaller to me and wish they could have been just like of the Sandtroopers.
Aside from these comparisons, the sculpt is still great. I have fun taking photos of the figure up close and in different angles. Very fine details in the helmet and the body armor. Paint job is also nice even in the smallest details of the helmet and the abs armor. The shinny white color can easily distinguish the Stormtrooper figure from the rest of the Black Series waves.
Articulation:
The 6” Black Series are well known for its articulation but sometimes sculpting can hinder some nice poses.
Head is ball jointed with hinged neck. The swivel hinged shoulders pads sometimes obstruct some arm raises, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel wrists, palms can be raised up and down, ball joint abs, swivel thighs, double joint knees and ball jointed ankles.
Leg raises are very limited like sitting down position because of the sharp edges in the upper leg armor.
I also had a hard time doing some nice poses when holding the long blaster rifle because it easily falls off. I just can’t figure out how he can point the rifle to the front with both hands. The problem again is with his fingers sculpt I guess.
Final Verdict:
Appearance: 9/10
Articulation: 8/10
Value for money: 9/10
Recommended: Yes
The 6” Stormtrooper is highly recommended for Star Wars collectors who want a 1:12 figure of a Stormtrooper in his shelf. The detailed sculpt, the satisfactory articulation and fair market price are just enough to get one of these.
This iconic Stormtrooper has always been in the bandwagon and now that Hasbro has just released the 1:12 versions, they are also running out fast.
